The Stavanger Symphony Orchestra (SSO) has become one of the most successful orchestras in
Scandinavia. In recent years it has achieved major artistic development and has attracted an even
greater following, both inside and out of Norway. In the autumn of 2012, the orchestra moved
into its new home, the Stavanger Konserthus, and the Fartein Valen Orchestra Hall has been built
to the highest standards.
In 2015 the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra established its own label, SSO Recordings, and its
sophomore release is a new interpretation of the Norwegian composer Finn Mortensen’s
Symphony Opus 5, conducted by Peter Szilvay. The recording was produced by Ulrike Schwarz
and engineered by Grammy winner Jim Anderson. The recording was mixed at Skywalker Sound
in northern California and mastered by Robert C. (Bob) Ludwig of Gateway Mastering, Portland,
Maine. Peter Szilvay is a recognized conductor of contemporary compositions.
The Mortensen recording has been released in multiple formats: CD, 33 1/3 rpm vinyl, Blu-ray
